The oil from prickly pear seeds has a deep golden color, a dense composition and a natural smell. The anhydrous wild variety is Opuntia ficus indica and is found among the volcanic ancient vineyard of Oia in Santorini. The prickly pears are harvested on farming* in Santorini, the Cyclades and all over Greece.

According to scientific articles*, in addition to vitamin E (anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties), it contains vitamin K (active against hyperpigmentation and persistent dark circles), amino acids (which promote collagen production and cell renewal), phytosterols and polyphenols (with proven anti-aging and antioxidant effects), fatty acids, mainly linoleic and oleic (contribute to skin elasticity and, to a certain extent, to restoring firmness). It contains the highest percentage (88%) of unsaturated fatty acids compared to other beauty oils, with the optimal ratio of linoleic to oleic at approximately 3:1. Opuntia Ficus Indica (prickly pear) is the only plant that contains all 24 antioxidant betalains. Also, as mentioned, the combination of its active ingredients offers relief to skin suffering from rosacea. According to research, it is easily absorbed, penetrating quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy residue, while it is recommended to apply 1 to 3 drops to clean skin so that the oil penetrates properly without leaving a greasy residue on every skin type while offering its unique properties equally to men and women. This specific prickly pear seed oil is not an edible product.

The prickly pear, or Opuntia ficus indica , is a genus of flowering plants in the cactus family Cactaceae . The genus takes its name from the ancient Greek city of Opus, where, according to Theophrastus, an edible plant grew and could be propagated by rooting its leaves.

Prickly pear oil has been used for many centuries. Only recently, research has begun to show how beneficial prickly pear oil is for human skin. Early findings suggest that prickly pear oil may promote skin health and help clear and control acne. Prickly pear is also said to have been used by its desert inhabitants to soothe parched skin caused by dry, hot weather and relentless winds. Today, the nutrient-rich oil can be pressed and extracted from the seeds and used as a carrier oil. Prickly pear is quickly gaining popularity in cosmetics and skin care applications as a vital ingredient.

Prickly pear oil is naturally rich in vitamin E and antioxidants. This gives prickly pear its soothing properties when applied topically to the skin. The oil’s nutrients are helpful with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that come with aging skin, along with dark spots. Although people with all skin types can benefit from prickly pear oil, it is said to be most beneficial for those with oily, dull, and mature skin. When applied, this oil is easily absorbed by the skin, leaving it silky and hydrated without becoming greasy. It has multiple benefits for the skin and hair. It is produced using the cold-pressed method where its seeds are pressed until the oil is released. It is high in fatty acids that work on dry skin and help hydrate and restore moisture. It works on the skin by helping to increase its ability to absorb it. The fatty acids contained in the oil help replenish collagen, which is an important part of maintaining skin elasticity.

The vitamins E and K in the oil work well on skin that looks tired and dull. These nutrients work on the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, improving the quality of the skin and making it smooth and fresh, without being sticky or greasy. Polyphenols that have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties help to relieve sun damage. For redness and acne, applying the oil to the skin not only helps reduce inflammation but also helps control acne-causing bacteria.

The nourishing and emollient properties of prickly pear oil can be used by people with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. The naturally derived nutrients in the oil, such as polysaccharides, work on damaged, dry and irritated skin. The main components of prickly pear carrier oil are linoleic acid, oleic acid, natural carotenoids, omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin C and flavonoids.
